Discover Grandvalira’s 210+km of skiing, seven connected sectors and the best places to stay, with local advice from the Andorra-based ATS team.
Seven connected sectors, 215km of skiing and enough mountain to keep every level happy. Here is how to make the most of Grandvalira with some local help from the ATS team.
There is a moment on most Grandvalira ski holidays when someone says:
“Shall we just do one more run?”
This normally happens while you are standing somewhere above Soldeu, with the late-afternoon sun across the Pyrenees and the vague belief that your hotel is probably only a couple of lifts away.
It might be.
It might also be several valleys, three chairlifts and a spirited discussion about the piste map.
That is Grandvalira. Big enough to feel like a proper mountain adventure, but connected well enough that exploring it becomes part of the holiday.
With 210+km of slopes spread across seven sectors, it is the largest ski area in the Pyrenees. There are gentle learning areas, long cruising runs, World Cup pistes, snowparks, mountain restaurants and plenty of places where “a quick lunch” can become a very relaxed afternoon.

📍 One Andorra-based ATS team to help you put everything together
Now let’s get into the bits that actually matter when choosing your ski holiday.
Grandvalira is one enormous linked ski area covering seven sectors:
📍 Pas de la Casa
📍 Grau Roig
📍 Peretol
📍 Soldeu
📍 El Tarter
📍 Canillo
📍 Encamp
The sectors are connected by pistes and lifts, so you can start skiing in one part of the area and spend the day exploring without taking off your skis.
Well, apart from lunch. We strongly recommend removing your skis before lunch.
Each sector has its own personality.
Pas de la Casa is high, lively and brilliantly convenient.
Grau Roig feels quieter, wilder and more remote.
Soldeu and El Tarter combine excellent skiing with attractive villages, quality hotels and après-ski.
Canillo has a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.
Encamp provides access to the mountain through the impressive Funicamp.
Then there is Peretol, home to Grandvalira’s night-time snowpark and another link within the wider ski area.
Yes, and this is one of the biggest reasons we recommend it to so many of our guests.
Picture a typical mixed group.
One person has never worn ski boots before and is currently wondering why walking has suddenly become an extreme sport.
Another wants miles of scenic reds.
Someone else has already found the black runs on the piste map and is quietly planning to disappear after breakfast.
Grandvalira can keep all of them happy.
Beginners have dedicated learning areas, gentle slopes and excellent ski-school options.
Once those first turns begin to click, there is room to progress without feeling confined to the same small corner of the mountain all week.
Grandvalira is made for big cruising days.
There are wide blues, flowing reds and enough variety to keep you exploring throughout the week.
This is the territory where “let’s ski over there” becomes an entire day out.
More experienced skiers can look towards the steeper pistes, moguls, marked freeride areas and World Cup runs around Soldeu and El Tarter.
Freestylers have three snowparks to explore, including the floodlit Sunset Park Peretol.
The real joy is that everyone can have a different kind of ski day and still meet for lunch to compare stories.
The accuracy of those stories may vary. The person who “nearly landed it” will usually provide the most enthusiastic version.
Very.
Grandvalira has created proper spaces for children to enjoy the mountain, rather than treating young skiers as smaller adults who simply need shorter skis.
Family areas and themed children’s circuits include:
🐉 Mon(t) Màgic in Canillo
🎪 Bababoom Circus in El Tarter
👹 The Yôkai circuit in Soldeu
🌲 Kids Forest trails in several sectors
There are also Snow Gardens, children’s programmes, nurseries and ski lessons available for different ages and abilities.
The important part is choosing the right product and meeting point.
A lesson that looks perfect on paper is not especially perfect if it starts in a different sector from your hotel.
The ATS team can help match your accommodation, lift access, equipment hire and lessons so the first morning feels organised rather than like a family expedition involving gloves, boots, children and three different meeting points.
That first morning matters.
Get it right and the rest of the week usually follows.
There is no single correct answer.
It depends on the holiday you want when you are not skiing.
Choose Pas de la Casa if you want high-altitude skiing, convenient slope access, plenty of shops and the liveliest après-ski scene in Andorra.
It works particularly well for groups of ski mates and guests who like everything close by.
Pas is energetic, informal and rarely accused of going to bed too early.
Soldeu combines direct access to outstanding skiing with quality hotels, restaurants and a polished resort atmosphere.
It is popular with couples, families and experienced skiers, but its excellent ski-school facilities also make it a strong choice for beginners.
The gondola and main chairlift provide easy access to the mountain from the village centre.
El Tarter feels a little calmer than Soldeu while still offering superb access to Grandvalira.
It suits families, couples and groups who want excellent skiing with a more relaxed base.
It is also home to L’Abarset, so “relaxed” remains an optional setting after the lifts close.
Canillo is a quieter, family-friendly village with gondola access to the Mon(t) Màgic area.
It is a particularly good base for families and beginners who value a gentler resort atmosphere.
More confident skiers can continue across the wider Grandvalira area from the Canillo sector.
Encamp gives you access to Grandvalira via the Funicamp, one of Europe’s longest funitel lifts.
It is a practical option for guests who want to combine skiing with easier access to Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany.
The journey up the mountain takes longer than stepping directly onto a slope, but it opens up a huge section of the ski area.
Grau Roig has no traditional resort village.
It is all about the mountain, the scenery and a quieter sense of escape.
The Peretol and Bordes d’Envalira area can suit guests looking for a peaceful stay with access into the Grandvalira network, although the choice of accommodation and evening facilities is more limited.
The best resort is not simply the one with the most bars, the shortest transfer or the smartest hotel.
It is the one that fits how your group wants the whole holiday to feel.
That is exactly the sort of conversation we enjoy having.
Yes.
Your Grandvalira lift pass covers all seven connected Grandvalira sectors and its 210+km of skiing.
Grandvalira ski passes also include access to Andorra’s other two ski areas:
🎿 Pal Arinsal
🏔️ Ordino Arcalís
Together, Andorra’s three ski areas offer more than 300km of slopes.
Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís are not connected by ski lifts, so travelling between them requires a journey by road.
The extra access is useful if you fancy a change of scenery, want to experience the freeride reputation of Ordino Arcalís or would like to spend a day exploring Pal Arinsal.
Do not race around Andorra merely because the pass allows it.
Grandvalira has more than enough skiing for a full week.
But having the choice is rather nice.
Much better than the emergency chocolate bar in your jacket pocket might suggest.
Grandvalira has mountain restaurants, cafés, terraces and self-service options across its seven sectors.
You can stop for something quick and get straight back onto the slopes, or settle in for a longer lunch with proper mountain views.
Guests booking selected ATS ski-pack offers can include lunch vouchers alongside their lift passes and equipment hire.
It is a simple addition, but it means one less daily decision and keeps the main parts of the ski holiday together.
There is also a genuine pleasure in skiing into lunch, leaving your skis outside and discovering that nobody in the group is in any hurry to move.
When you pre-book your Grandvalira lift pass with ATS, you can add lunch vouchers for use at participating mountain restaurants. Your lunch is already paid for, so there is no daily debate about where to eat or how much it will cost. Just ski in, refuel and get back out there.
Keep an eye on the lift-closing times.
Grandvalira is large, and the mountain will not accept “but we ordered dessert” as a transport plan.
You can find a hotel room online.
You can buy a lift pass.
You can book a transfer and arrange ski hire.
The important question is whether all those separate pieces work together when you arrive.
That is where ATS comes in.
We specialise exclusively in Andorra and have spent 20 years helping guests build ski holidays here.
We know the resorts, accommodation and ski areas because Andorra is not one destination among dozens for us.
We can bring together:
🏨 Hotels and apartments
🚌 Shared or private airport transfers
🎫 Grandvalira lift passes
🎿 Ski and snowboard equipment hire
🏂 Group and private lessons
👧 Children’s ski programmes
🍽️ Ski-pack offers with lunch options
More importantly, we can help you choose the right combination.
A family with two first-time skiers needs something different from a group of experienced ski mates.
A couple looking for a special hotel will not necessarily want the same resort as a group planning lively après-ski.
The cheapest-looking option is not good value if it creates unnecessary journeys or puts you in the wrong place for your lessons.
Our team helps guests think through those details before they travel.
Booking with ATS does not end with a confirmation email.
When you arrive in Andorra, our resort team is here too.
If you have a question, need help or simply want some local advice, you can contact our Andorra-based team.
You will be speaking to real people who know the destination and understand the holiday you have booked.
No pretending every resort is identical.
No passing you around while someone tries to find Andorra on a map.
Just straightforward help from people who spend their winters on the same mountains.
Grandvalira is big, but a ski holiday should never feel complicated.
Choose the right resort.
Match the accommodation to your group.
Arrange the essentials before you travel.
Then arrive, clip in and start exploring.
You will have 210+km of skiing and seven sectors ahead of you.
Your biggest problem may be agreeing where to stop for lunch.
Explore our Grandvalira hotels and apartments, arrange your airport transfers and pre-book your lift passes, equipment hire and ski lessons with Andorra Travel Service.
